I have never surfed before. Is Surfing Costa Rica Pura Vida right for me?

Most of our guests have never surfed before, but have dreamed about learning how. Our camp is tailored to all skill-levels. The only skills you need are to be able to swim, hold your breath, and have the time of your life.

Why should I select Surfing Costa Rica Pura Vida over the others?

Do you want to learn to surf by a native Costa Rican? Cesar knows all the locals and speaks their language. The locals are very protective of their waves like any surf destination. Cesar will be able to take you to private surf breaks reserved for locals only.

Who will be teaching me how to surf?

Cesar and his team of native surfers will be with you from the time you’re picked up at the hotel until the time you dry off after catching waves.

Should I tip my instructor?

Our team is here to make sure you have an incredible experience with hopes that you’ll pay us a return visit and refer a friend. If at the end of your week you are pleased with your instructor a tip is never expected, but is always greatly appreciated.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No, Cesar speaks perfect English and while you’re surfing you’ll get free Spanish lessons. Most Costa Ricans who work in tourism speak some level of English. The locals are all very friendly and if you ask they will translate into Spanish for you.

What time are your lessons offered?

We want our guests to get a good nights rest and have a big breakfast. Our lessons typically begin mid-morning and last around 2 hours.

What is the age range of your students?

We have students of all ages. We have had students as young as 5. If you can stand, you can surf.

Do I have to exchange my dollars for Costa Rica currency?

No, most places will accept dollars! Cesar will guide you how to buy in Costa Rica currency when necessary.

What do I need to bring?

Just bring a towel and some sunscreen. We’ll supply water, fruit and lots of waves.

When should I book my flight?

Once you receive your hotel and camp confirmation, you should book your flight.

How’s the weather?

Costa Rica is known for two seasons. The dry season is from December – April. The green season is from May – November. During the green season we will sometimes have an afternoon shower that normally passes pretty quickly. During both seasons the average temperature is around 90 so the water stays nice and warm.

How will my personal information be treated?

We keep your personal information in our database as long as your booking is active. This is done to handle possible cancellations.
